CMDB maps

On the CMDB Map page, you can view the links between assets recorded in the Service Desk 2.0 solution, as well as services and users.

Links between assets are formed when they are created or edited, when another existing asset is specified in the Parental CI or Child CI fields.

A link between an asset and a service is also added when creating or editing an asset if a service is specified in the Related services field.

A link between an asset and a user is created when the asset is assigned to a materially liable person.

Create a new CMDB map

To add a new map:

  1. In the upper right corner of the page, click the +New map button.
  2. In the window that opens, select an item from the CMDB app.

After that, the page will display a diagram of the selected asset’s links to the other assets.

Edit a CMDB map

You can change the map appearance by adding new items or removing the existing ones. This allows you to create complex CMDB maps that show more detailed links between elements.

To do this:

  1. Select an asset and right-click on it.
  2. In the opened window, select one of the following options:

cmdb-tree-2

  • Show link with services. The diagram will display services related to the selected asset or user.
  • Show link with users. The diagram will display the employee specified as the materially liable person or the user responsible for the service.
  • Show link with CI. The diagram will display assets related to the service or user.
  • Delete. The selected item will be removed from the diagram.

For example, the expanded diagram of links between assets, users, and services may look as follows:

Save the CMDB map

To save the created map, follow these steps:

  1. In the upper right corner, click the Save button.
  2. In the opened window, enter the map name.
  3. Click Save.

You can open the saved map on the page again. To do this, specify the previously created diagram in the Saved maps field.

All saved maps are displayed in the Saved CMDB Maps app.

Saved CMDB maps

The app stores a list of diagrams created and saved on the CMDB Map page.

System administrators have access to a list of all saved maps. Other users can only see the maps they have created themselves.

By default, saved maps are displayed in the app as a table containing the name of the item.

In the table settings, you can select the item properties to be displayed and configure the sorting parameters for the data in the table.

Applications can also be displayed as tiles.
