Due to errors and malfunctions, a business process instance may pause at a certain step. This can occur in the following cases:
- An error occurred during block execution. The instance will appear in Administration > Error Monitor. On its page, you can identify the step with the error, for example, a configured script failed to execute.
- No execution error is found. The instance will not be included in the error monitor, and the instance page does not include the block with the error. For example, a specific task in the process has completed, but the transition to the next block has not occurred.
In such situations, you can restart the instance or interrupt its execution.
Actions in instances with found errors
If an error is found during the process, you can see the step where it occurred. On the instance page, open the History tab. You will see the step with the error highlighted in red.
To resolve the error:
- On the page of the instance with the error, go to the History tab.
- Click the name of the step with the error.
- In the window that opens, read the error text and select an action:

- Skip Step. Skip the current step and proceed to the next one. Use this when performing an action in the current step is impossible or unnecessary.
- Restart. Repeat the step where the process stopped. Select this option after resolving the cause of the error.
- You can apply these actions to all steps with errors at once, for example, if they were running in parallel. To do this, click the Skip Steps or Restart Steps buttons in the bottom panel of the instance page.
You can also resume a process with an error from the Error Monitor page.
Actions in instances without a found error
When an instance is paused, but an error in a specific step cannot be detected, the process instance execution can also be resumed. To do this:
- Enable the ability to restart processes without a found error. To do this, contact BRIX technical support to enable the feature flag.
- Go to the instance page where the following buttons will become available:
- Restart Steps. Used if the causes of the error have been fixed and the current step needs to be re‑run.
- Skip Steps. Used if the current step can be canceled so the process can continue from the next step.
- You can also update process tasks, for example, if a task remains assigned to a user while the process has already moved on to the next block. To do this, go to the task page, open the list of available actions, and select Synchronize task status.
Important: to prevent such situations, we recommend analyzing the cause of the errors and correcting any identified issues.
