# Tool licensing

**Tools** are additional system features that are licensed separately from the BRIX platform using a [server license](licences.md#server). 

The [Status groups in apps](status-groups.md) tool is currently available. It allows you to set up multiple Kanban boards in a single app.

## Activate a tool in SaaS

### Enable a trial period for a tool in SaaS 

1. Go to **Administration > License Management**, click **Contact Sales Rep** on the tool card, and send a request.

2. A BRIX rep will discuss the trial duration with you and activate the tool.

3. The tool status will change to **Activated** on its card.

 

### Activate a tool license in SaaS

To continue using the tool after the trial period ends:

1. In **Administration > License Management**, select the tool and click **Contact Sales Rep**.

2. Once the license is paid, a BRIX manager will activate the tool. Its status will change to **Activated**.

## Activate a tool in On-Premises 

### Enable a trial period for a tool in On-Premises

1. Go to **Administration > License Management** and click **Activate** on the tool card. In the window that opens, copy the server registration key and send it to the BRIX rep who provided the platform to you.

2. The BRIX rep will discuss the trial duration with you and generate a tool activation key. Paste it into the **Activation Key** field and click **Activate**.

3. The tool status will then change to **Activated**.

### Activate a tool license in On-Premises

To continue using the tool after the trial period ends:

1. In **Administration > License Management**, select the tool and click **Activate**. If you enabled a trial period and it has not expired, click **Update License**.

2. In the window that opens, copy the server registration key and send it to your BRIX manager.

3. Once the license is paid, the BRIX manager will generate a tool activation key. Paste it into the **Activation Key** field and click **Activate**.
